Yoga Body Fitness in a Stressful World

There is a continuing rise in disease and sickness in today`s fast paced, stressful world. Many are turning to alternative treatments to aid in healing and reduction of such conditions. One of the most effective of these is yoga body fitness. Stretching and breathing are two of the main components of this practice, and the resulting flexibility and calming effects are quite helpful in dropping the harmful effects of stress and environmental toxins. Yoga is great in achieving overall balance in mind, body and spirit.

Yoga began in the ancient East 5000 years ago, and it was coined from the Sanskrit yug, which means to join. Harmony of body and mind systems is created by utilizing various poses. These include pranyamas, mudras, shatkarmas, meditation, asanas, and bandhas. One goal of yoga has always been to enable the user to gain access to the universal consciousness. The body must be balanced also in order for this to occur. Stress and worry can then be easily shaken off. Deep breathing takes on a whole new meaning when practicing yoga.

More and more different types of people are turning to this practice as a means to achieve health that no other method has offered. Many illnesses and pain issues have been helped and even eliminated when using yoga body fitness. Of course, practitioners may not make this claim, but many studies have proven yoga`s effectiveness in this regard. This is also a welcome change to adding further medications to health issues. A lot of medications create conditions other than the one that needs treatment, and people on multiple medications can acquire completely new diseases from the reactions of all the drugs together.

A list of other yoga benefits follows:

  2. Overall body fitness and health are maximized.
  3. The bodily systems are helped (digestive, circulatory, immune, nervous).
  4. Abdominal muscles are toned, and the stomach is flattened.

6 Toning of many muscles occurs (shoulders, abs, arms, legs, chest, buttocks). Achieving relief and sometimes cure of some illnesses (hypertension, heart disease, sexual issues, diabetes).

Obesity is an ever growing problem worldwide. Yoga results in weight loss and maintaining that loss. The body is also shaped and toned in ways that most other exercise regimens cannot accomplish. Yoga body fitness instructors make note of the increasing popularity of the practice; many say that it will only amplify. Another reason for this is because yoga causes people to feel better mentally and emotionally, as well as the previous mentioned benefits.

Anxiety and nervousness can be reduced by using yoga. The necessary energy to accomplish mind and bodily tasks is improved when doing yoga. Aching muscles and joints feel relief from pain and soothing benefits as well.

Finding a yoga body fitness class is easier than ever before. Most gyms have several yoga class options and times, and there are even businesses devoted solely to the practice of yoga. Most YMCAs and community recreation centers offer yoga classes as well.

Also, due to the current economic situation, most YMCAs have reduced joining fees, offer financial assistance, and allow people to join for free in some cases. This is to encourage people to start or maintain a healthy lifestyle regimen, without worrying about the cost. All of these types of providers will only employ certified yoga instructors or yogis who have been personally practicing for years. Safety is a factor when beginning yoga; skill and flexibility must be increased gradually to prevent soreness or injury.

Yoga body fitness can be explored and begun quite simply, and it can be the answer to many present day ailments.

Yoga techniques – Vinyasa Flow Yoga Technique

What is Vinyasa flow Yoga?
Vinyasa Yoga is a style of Yoga that combines techniques from a number of other Yoga styles

and is used to refer to various Yoga techniques. This style comes from the lineage of Krishnamacharya, who was a Yoga master and teacher to many other great practitioners of Yoga like Indra Devi, Sri K Pattabhi Jois and BKS Iyengar.

The term “Vinyasa” means “breath synchronized movement”. This style focuses on the same, achieving a synchronization between breathing

and body movements. It also refers to flow because the Asanas (Postures) are done in a smooth flowing style, almost similar to a dance.

The techniques of this style have been included in a number of traditional and classical Yoga styles like Kundalini Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga, as well as some modern styles like Power Yoga, Anusara Yoga and Jivamukti Yoga.

Technique of Vinyasa flow Yoga

This is a difficult style and requires lot of practice and concentration to be able to perform it well. This is because it requires the individual to be able to synchronize body movements along with breathing.

It includes some simple as well as complex Asanas. There are many sets of Asanas done together in continuity. Simple Asanas are those like the Cat-Cow pose as well as forward and backward bending exercises. The most complex Asana set is the Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutation). It is a set of multiple Asanas that are done in continuity, one flowing into the other. It is sometimes done with chantings of the different names of the Sun God, as also with a set style and pattern of breathing, including inhalation, exhalation and holding of the breath after each.

Along with specifications of breathing patterns, it also gives specifications for postures. Each posture has to be performed a certain way. This is done to avoid injuries while learning or practising.

Is Vinyasa flow Yoga beneficial?
This technique has no specific book or text to follow. Practitioners bring their own styles into this form due to which there is a lot of variety in this form. Because of this, different teachers of Vinyasa Yoga will have different styles of teaching and performing Asanas. You can try some of these styles before you can decide which one you like the most and would want to follow.

This style makes Yoga enjoyable as the individual is free to choose variations of the form as well as experiment with the style to suit individual needs. It is especially for those who enjoy variety and a dynamic style of exercising.

Bikram Yoga – A Brief Overview

What is Bikram Yoga?

Also known as “hot yoga”, Bikram yoga is a type of yoga that concentrates on the cleansing of the body and on improving one’s physical strength and endurance. It is practiced in rooms that have a temperature of about 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 degrees Celsius) or a bit more. Yoga master Bikram Choudhury is the creator of Bikram yoga. This type of exercise consists of a series of 26 poses and 2 breathing exercises that are performed twice in a 90 minute session.

When Yoga is performed at a very warm temperature, it causes one to perspire. It is believed that the sweating process helps the body eliminate accumulated toxins, infection, and bacteria. As well, the warm temperature makes stretching the muscles much easier because the muscles become more flexible when warm.

The entire process is designed to rejuvenate the body and improve ones over all health and well being. The warm room helps one to stretch more effectively, alleviate tension and stress, provide pain relief, tone muscles, burn calories, strengthen the spine, increase energy levels, increase balance and coordination, and prevent muscle, tissue, and tendon injury. The result is stimulated blood circulation and restoring health to the joints and muscles.

When engaged in Bikram yoga, one will be taken through a series of 26 poses which stimulates and improves brain activity, lungs, muscles, heart, mental fitness, and blood circulation. There are two descriptions of the 26 poses that are referred to as pranayama (breathing exercises) and asanas (postures.) Both work in unison to provide optimum results. For instance, many people have reported an improvement in lung capacity. This is because oxygen exchange is improved as well as the increase in blood circulation.

When one follows the 26 poses in order, the increase in blood circulation will deliver a fresh oxygen supply to the organs, joints, and muscles. As one holds a pose, circulation is temporality slowed thereby causing the heart to work harder which delivers fresh blood throughout the body. Once one ends the pose, the fresh oxygenated blood delivers nutrients throughout the body, including the organs, while removing toxins, bacteria, and other harmful substances.

The result is a restoration of the health of the body’s organs, muscles, and tissues. It helps one to strengthen muscles, maintain their weight, and relax the mind and body which improves one’s emotional well being. The overall effect is a feeling of good health, both mentally and physically.

Originating in India, yoga is the practice of physical poses which is designed to improve the body, mind, and spirit. Millions of people from all over the world now practice yoga. Since its inception centuries ago, yoga has evolved to encompass many different types with their own unique benefits.

Bikram Yoga is one type of yoga that has become very popular in recent years. It is a relatively new form of yoga that is rooted in ancient yoga practices that are popular for those who want to achieve optimum mind and body fitness levels while engaging in an effective body detoxifying practice.

6 Yoga Tips for Holiday Stress – Fresh Living

6 Yoga Tips for Holiday Stress

If you find a bit of an edge creeping in to your holiday buzz, check out these calming exercises from Candace Morano, a New York City-based yoga instructor. No need to do them all at once, try one or two at least to get settled. Yoga medicine is usually like good hair conditioner–a little goes a long way. Of course, also check with your doctor before doing any new exercisey thing. That said, Candace, take it away!

1) Inhale through both nostrils. Give your breath a color. Envision and feel your breath moving down to your toes, whether sitting or standing. Exhale and again envision your breath now moving upward from your toes, through your pelvic floor and continuing up the spinal column and out the crown of your head. Do this 3x, slowly and feel calm, grounded and centered.

2) Standing or sitting, inhale and ground into your feet or sitz bones. Connect to your body’s center at the navel by inhaling and drawing your navel towards your spine. Exhale and lengthen your lower back towards your tailbone and your tailbone towards the floor. Feel your chest rise and your heart lift. Do this 3x times and feel energy rising up through your body’s center and notice how you feel confident and solid in your body.

3) Imagine a rose. Put all your worries/doubts anxieties into the rose. Inhale through both nostrils keeping your attention on the rose. As you exhale, watch the rose petals explode and disintegrate the limitations that are created by our unwavering mind. Now that you have cleared your mind, see a blank canvas to create affirming statements or mantras, such as: “I fully embrace and accept the beauty and challenges this day brings.”

4) Connect to your heart. Remember something or someone you are grateful for and send them a loving prayer or blessing. See the joy on their face as your prayer or blessing arrives. Remember that these very simple but profound experiences make our life beautiful and expansive.

5) Engage in your surroundings by noticing some people or faces nearby. Simply smile at someone and notice how your body relaxes and your mental outlook shifts. Remember that simple generosity comes back ten fold and connects us back to our hearts.

6) Shift your perspective. If you are standing in line or sitting in a car or on a train, look over your right shoulder as if someone was calling you and keep your hips square. Deepen and guide your breath into the leg that you are twisting away from and feel your torso rotate from the base of the spine upward. Exhale as you arrive into the twist and feel the muscles around your ribcage and spine soften. Inhale again and imagine the body’s outer layer melting like wax down a candle and lengthen the crown of your head upward. Exhale and de-rotate facing forward again. Do the other side and repeat 3x on each side.
